How to copy a DVD

Most people thought that learning how to copy a DVD is as easy as copying a CD, well my friends, you are wrong. There are some difference between the two media.

The first time I tried to buy a recordable DVD in a CD store, I was surprised when the sales lady asked me if it was a "+' or "-" DVD. I didn't know what to answer because during that time I was not aware that there were such difference. I thought that it was just the same as a recordable CD. That experience led me to learn that there is a difference between copying a CD from DVD.

Here are some of the things that we need to know on how to copy a DVD:

1. DVD movies, TV shows and others of that matter are encrypted by Hollywood studios to protect their interest from people who wants to copy their product and sell it others.

2. In order to avoid problems caused by the special encryption of Hollywood studios, we can buy or download ripping software that will rip our files and store it into our computer. This ripping programs can be bought or downloaded from the Web.

3. Also we need to know what kind of recordable DVD our system is compatible with, if it is DVD R+ or DVD R-. We will know that by checking our computer manual but just in case you no longer have you manual, just tell the sales clerk what computer system you have and he will probably know the type of DVD you need. Also, most newer system now supports both DVD R+ and DVD R-.

4. Another protection Hollywood studios placed in their movies is that their movies are too big for the recordable DVDs. You can fix this by compressing the files to fit the size of your recordable DVD.

After you have done what is needed, then you can burn the files to your DVD & don't forget to test after copying.

Well, now you realize that it is not that difficult to know how to copy a DVD. It only differs a little from our regular CD but process is also the same.
